Laila Mickelwait

Founder and CEO, Justice Defense Fund

Laila Mickelwait is the Co-Founder and CEO of the Justice Defense Fund, the Founder of the Traffickinghub movement supported by millions around the world, and the national bestselling author of Takedown: Inside the Fight to Shut Down Pornhub for Child Abuse, Rape, and Sex Trafficking. She has been researching and combating the injustice of sex trafficking since 2006 and is a leading expert in the field.

The Traffickinghub movement that Laila continues to lead is a decentralized global effort to hold Pornhub accountable for enabling and profiting from mass sexual crime. The petition to shut down Pornhub has been signed by over 2.3 million people from every country in the world. Over 600 organizations have participated in the movement that resulted in Pornhub being forced to take down 91% of the website (50 million+ images and videos) in what the Financial Times called “probably the biggest takedown of content in Internet history.”

Founder and CEO, Exodus Cry

Benjamin founded the nonprofit organization Exodus Cry in 2008 after being inspired by the life of William Wilberforce. He is committed to abolishing trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation by shifting cultural mindsets and pushing for effective new laws. He has been a featured speaker at the United Nations, is an award-winning filmmaker, and his films have shaped legislation worldwide while reaching millions of viewers. He is driven by a conviction that every person should be free.

“Ending impunity for abusers and bringing justice to survivors of online sexual crime.”

The Justice Defense Fund (JDF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering survivors of online sex trafficking, child sexual abuse material, and criminal image-based sexual abuse to pursue justice through strategic litigation and advocacy support. JDF also engages in public pressure campaigns to shine a spotlight on injustice and advocates for the adoption of policies to prevent the online distribution of sexual crime.

After over 30 cumulative years in the fight against sex trafficking and child exploitation, JDF was founded in 2020 by Laila Mickelwait and Morgan Perry with the vision of mobilizing big thinking, relentless partners and allies who believe that the era of impunity for corporate online traffickers like Pornhub is over, and through strategic collaboration and bold action, the Internet can become a safer place for future generations.
